Connecting Essay 5

This is a photograph that I found on the internet. I really enjoy this photograph because of the vibrant, bold colours as they make the image stand out. Another reason I like this photograph is because of the repetition of the leaves as it draws attention to the image as a whole because there is no focal point. Other formal elements used in this image is lines, this creates depth in the photograph with gives the image a 3d effect.

This is a photograph that I took myself. I believe that this is a good photograph because of the formal elements used. For example, the use of the bright, bold colours that make this image stand out. Also, the use of lines give this photograph the sense of depth with make it look 3d.

These photographs are very similar because they both have the subject of autumn leave, they also use the same formal elements. For example, they both use bold autumn colours which makes the photographs stand out. Also, they both use lines very well which gives the images depth.

Connecting Essay 4

This is a photograph by Robert Mapplethorpe. I really like this photograph because of the way the subject of the image fills out the canvas. I also think that the composition of this image is done very well because although you cannot on see most of the subjects face, it is very effective and artistic.

This is a photograph that I took myself, I think that it reflects the same photography style as Mapplethorpe. I really like this photograph because of how the subject of the image covers the entire canvas. The colours of this photograph are also very effective as it makes the photograph look more dramatic.

These two photographs are very similar because of the colour scheme and composition. As you can see the subjects of both the images are in the same position. The colours of both the photographs are also the same which gives the images a more dramatic effect.

Connecting Essay 3

This is a photograph that I found on the internet. I like this photograph because of how simple yet artistic it is. Natural elements such as lines and colour are used in this photograph. The use of lines in this image makes it stand out because it directs the viewers eyes towards the subjects of the photographs, in this case, it would be the books.

This is a photograph I took myself, I like this photograph because of the bright colours contrasted with the black and white in the photographs because it make the photograph stand out. The use of lines in this photograph direct the viewers eyes towards the focal points in this image. If I were to improve this photograph I would make sure that there was no reflection off the books.

These photographs are quite similar because of the use of colour and lines, as they both use bright colours and vertical lines. The composition is also very similar because of how the books are very central in the photographs. I prefer my photograph because of the bright colours although I do believe the other image is very good.

Connecting Essay 2

This is an image I found on the internet by a photographer called Teresa Zafon. I like this image because of the diagonal composition which draws the viewers focus to lead up the stairs. This image has many formal elements such as lines, depth and form. The shadows in this image create a 3d effect. The use of lines in the photograph is very creative because they are diagonal, which draws attention to the photograph.

This is a photograph I took myself. I really like this photograph because it has many formal elements in it. Lines are used very well in this image because there are both horizontal and diagonal lines which draw the viewers attention to the image. Also, the formal element of form is used in this photograph through the use of shadows which give the picture a 3d effect to it.

These two pictures are quite similar because they both use basically the same formal elements such as line and depth. I prefer the photograph that I took because of the composition of the diagonals used, although the composition in the other photograph is good, the image that I took looks more realistic and 3d. Furthermore in the photograph I took, space was used up more which looks better than a large space of white background.

Connecting Essay 1

This is an image I found on the internet by someone by Louise Heathorn. I like this image because of the colour scheme, the same colour is used in every photograph which makes this multiple imagery photograph look as if the subject in all 9 of these photographs were all the same. I also like the composition in this image, you can tell all the photographs were all taken of the same subject, but as each image is at a different angle it shows off the different parts of the subject. Formal elements are used in this multiple imagery photograph such as depth and tone which gives the image a 3d effect.

This is a photograph that I took when shooting multiple imagery. I like this photograph because of the contrast in colours between the bright green grass and the bold autumn colours on the leaves. If I could make this multiple imagery photograph better I would change the composition on some of the images to make sure the space is used properly.

These pictures are clearly very similar because they are both multiple imagery images of leaves, I like the choice of colour in both of them even though they are quite different, this is because in the first photograph, all the images are the same colour which makes it look realistic, simplistic but still very effective. On the other hand, in the second image there is a great contrast in colours which makes the images look bold and it also makes it stand out. Furthermore, I prefer the composition in the first image because each individual image fills up the entire canvas which makes the picture look fuller, where as in the second photograph, some of the individual photographs do not have a very good composition as the space hasn't been filled well.
