Texture - Work Diary

In this session we had to go out and photograph texture, I found this task quite easy because the sun was out and shadows are vital when photographing texture. Also there was many things that could be taken photographs of. After the photographs were taken we had to edit our best ones in photoshop. To edit it we changed the levels and curves to make the image have a greater contrast and to brighten the photograph.

This is my best picture because it shows off texture very well. The texture and the converging lines give the image a 3d effect. There is good contrast in this image because of the black and white colour scheme. As mentioned before the use of converging lines make this image have a direction which is pleasing to the eye of the viewer.

I like this photograph because of the way it shows off texture in the bricks, there are many different varieties of texture in this image from the bricks to the cement. Form is also used in this photograph as you can see from the shadows, this gives the photograph a 3d effect.

If I were to photograph texture again I would try and photograph something else rather than walls and floors. I would also try and incorporate some colour into my photographs because all the pictures taken had little colour. Furthermore, to improve my texture photographs, I would try and also use more form to make the images more 3d. These photographs gave me inspiration for texture photography:

Texture - Straight Images

Texture - Definition

Dictionary Definition: the feel, appearance, or consistency of a surface or a substance.

  • Soft
  • Fuzzy
  • Silky
  • Fluffy
  • Hard
  • Imprinted
  • Deep
  • Rough
Texture is shown through shadows and tone in this photograph. The lines also make the texture in the image stand out much more.

Tone is the main element that shows texture in this image. The contrasts between the colour in the image, clearly shows off texture.

In this photograph, texture is shown through the use of shadows and tone in the image. As the image is zoomed in close, texture is a lot easier to see.

Texture is shown in two different ways in this photograph, it is shown through the gravelly background and the ridged focal point. Texture is shown through shadows and different tone. As the image is in black and white, it shows of the textures more as it is easier to see shadows.

My Definition: Texture is the material an object is made of, which gives the object its own individual feel.

Texture - Image Bank

Texture in photography usually gives the image a 3d effect. It shows off the focal point of the image in more detail through the use of indents in an object. Texture is used in photography to show off the image in more detail to make the photograph more dynamic.

Texture is shown in this photograph through the detail in the leaf; this image also has reflection in it which makes the photograph look more detailed and realistic.

Depth is used in this photograph to show off texture. This is an effective way to show off texture as it also is in black and white so it shows off more detail.

In this image, the use of texture is used to show off the details of the surface. This image is also in black and white which makes the detail stand out more.

Colour is used in this image to show off texture in this image; this picture is very effective as there are many different types of texture, such as, from the ladybird and the log that they're on.

In this image, texture is used to show age.

There are many different types of texture in this image. They all make the image look more realistic and 3d.
