Connecting Essay 5

This is a photograph that I found on the internet. I really enjoy this photograph because of the vibrant, bold colours as they make the image stand out. Another reason I like this photograph is because of the repetition of the leaves as it draws attention to the image as a whole because there is no focal point. Other formal elements used in this image is lines, this creates depth in the photograph with gives the image a 3d effect.

This is a photograph that I took myself. I believe that this is a good photograph because of the formal elements used. For example, the use of the bright, bold colours that make this image stand out. Also, the use of lines give this photograph the sense of depth with make it look 3d.

These photographs are very similar because they both have the subject of autumn leave, they also use the same formal elements. For example, they both use bold autumn colours which makes the photographs stand out. Also, they both use lines very well which gives the images depth.

Final Project Evaluation

I really enjoyed this project as a whole because I've learnt a lot about photography over the past couple of months, for example, the formal elements and how to use them in photography to make pictures better.
My favourite part of this unit was shooting in the studio because it feels more professional and it it really enjoyable because the photographs tend to come out better.
Another thing I really enjoyed about this unit is the walks we did because it was good to photograph somewhere that we had never photographed before as apposed to around the college like we usually do.
One thing I didn't enjoy about this unit was the repetitive contextual work we had to do because I much prefer going out and shooting instead of being on a computer, writing.
If I were to redo this unit I would ensure to get all my practical work done on time because I left it to the last minute and had to do it in a rush. Another thing I would improve on is to always remember the formal elements when photographing.
Overall I have enjoyed this unit a lot because I believe I have learnt a lot and it is a really fun subject.

Connecting Essay 4

This is a photograph by Robert Mapplethorpe. I really like this photograph because of the way the subject of the image fills out the canvas. I also think that the composition of this image is done very well because although you cannot on see most of the subjects face, it is very effective and artistic.

This is a photograph that I took myself, I think that it reflects the same photography style as Mapplethorpe. I really like this photograph because of how the subject of the image covers the entire canvas. The colours of this photograph are also very effective as it makes the photograph look more dramatic.

These two photographs are very similar because of the colour scheme and composition. As you can see the subjects of both the images are in the same position. The colours of both the photographs are also the same which gives the images a more dramatic effect.

Connecting Essay 3

This is a photograph that I found on the internet. I like this photograph because of how simple yet artistic it is. Natural elements such as lines and colour are used in this photograph. The use of lines in this image makes it stand out because it directs the viewers eyes towards the subjects of the photographs, in this case, it would be the books.

This is a photograph I took myself, I like this photograph because of the bright colours contrasted with the black and white in the photographs because it make the photograph stand out. The use of lines in this photograph direct the viewers eyes towards the focal points in this image. If I were to improve this photograph I would make sure that there was no reflection off the books.

These photographs are quite similar because of the use of colour and lines, as they both use bright colours and vertical lines. The composition is also very similar because of how the books are very central in the photographs. I prefer my photograph because of the bright colours although I do believe the other image is very good.

Pre-Completion Evaluation

Since I've written my mid-project evaluation, my opinion of photography has not changed much. I still really enjoy the lesson and learning about photographers and how to improve my work.
My favourite part of this topic so far has been shooting Mapplethorpe as we got to use the studio and experiment with different backgrounds and lighting.
My least favourite part so far is still writing on the blog because it is very hiring and repetitive.
To improve my photography I would again try and get my work on time instead of leaving it until last minute, although my timing has improved slightly. It is also difficult because I missed some lessons and had to catch up with the work.
As it is winter, photographing outside is less enjoyable, therefore I rush some of my shoots and not do it to the best of my ability but I know it will improve when the weather gets better.
Another aspect of photography that I enjoy is when we get to experiment with editing on photoshop because it help improve the photographs we take and lets us practise with using photoshop, although it would be helpful if I had access to photoshop at home.
Overall, I do really enjoy photography as it help my improve my skills in actually shooting photographs and also editing images.
